About This Class

Profound, intelligent, and transformative, Iyengar Yoga is for every age, body type, and fitness level. Iyengar Yoga provides practical tools to create and maintain bodily health and vitality, mental clarity, emotional serenity, and spiritual well-being. Developed by B.K.S. Iyengar during his more than 75 years of teaching, Iyengar Yoga is grounded in the ancient Indian tradition and philosophy of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras.

 

Our teachers are rigorously trained and dedicated. Our classes focus on strength and stamina, flexibility and balance, concentration and meditation in action – our method is a pathway to complete alignment.

 

About The Instructor

 

Mimi has been teaching since 2011, after having completed the Teacher Training in NY, led by James Murphy. She studied in Pune in 2012 and 2014. She plans to keep going to "the source" regularly, to study with the Iyengar family. Mimi continues her studies with James Murphy and her mentor, Matt Dreyfus, in New York. In addition to her regular classes, she teaches a weekly class to a group of inmates at Rikers Island, who consistently give her fresh and deep insights into the true meaning of yoga.

To Mimi, the most important result of a good yoga practice is to find deep connections between body, mind and breath. It's the experience of these connections that makes one feel more whole as a human being and more connected to other human beings. "If I can guide my students to connect to this harmony within themselves (as my teachers have done for me), I am happy."

Mimi grew up in The Netherlands, where she studied Philosophy and Musicology at the University of Amsterdam and Piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. She still plays and teaches piano, comprehending more and more the famous words of violinist Yehudi Menuhin, "B.K.S. Iyengar is my best violin teacher!"

She lives in Brooklyn with her husband, filmmaker Braden King, and teenage sons, Jonas and Oliver.

Tai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art, more commonly practiced for its health benefits.

Research articles, doctors and many around the world report great benefits from Tai Chi, including:

  • better mood, with lower levels of depression, stress, and anxiety
  • greater muscle strength
  • enhanced flexibility, balance, and agility; which reduces falls
  • lower blood pressure and improved heart health
  • reduced Inflammation

Join us and learn simple techniques from our certified trainer!

 

What To Wear

Wear clothing you are comfortable in - that doesn’t bind your movement. You need to be able to comfortably move through your entire range of motion without being restricted by your clothes. A comfy shirt, and sweats, shorts, or leggings are great. Try not to wear tight jeans or shirts that pull on your shoulders. Socks are the preferred footwear indoors, but if you feel more comfortable in something with flat soles, or if you wear orthotics, then by all means wear them!

NOTE - Arrive 10 minutes early to give yourself time to changes, and store your belongings in our locker room. Bring your own lock. Shower facilities are available, if you would like to use one after the class please bring shower toiletries and towels. See you there!

 

Instructor Bio

Bill Pagano is a certified teacher (Sifu) of Tai Chi Chuan since 2000, and a practitioner of the internal martial, movement, and meditative arts since 1990. He has taught classes, workshops and seminars in London, Frankfurt, and New York. Bill has been awarded gold medals in a number of regional tournaments and has been featured in several martial arts magazines. He is also a certified instructor of Taoist Meditation, Qigong, and Bagua Zhang. Bill is a PADI certified scuba diver, and an avid world traveler.
